Scottsbluff student taking part in special national flight program

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - Student athlete Michael Mickey in addition to playing sports is a cadet First Lieutenant Air Force Junior ROTC cadet at Scottsbluff High School.
Currently his Bearcat basketball team having a strong season and now Mickey is getting good news off the court.
He is set to receive a scholarship to attend an accredited aviation university in a Private Pilot Certificate training program this summer.
Mickey becomes just one of 200 Air Force Junior ROTC cadets around the world to receive a scholarship for the program. There are almost 120,000 high school students enrolled in the Air Force Junior ROTC programs at 870 high schools in the United States and overseas.
The Air Force Junior ROTC Flight Academy Scholarship Program is an Air Force-level initiative in collaboration with the commercial aviation industry to address the national civilian and military pilot shortage.
The program is an eight week course which allows aspiring young aviators to get their private pilot’s certification at no cost. The scholarship also covers transportation, along with room and board. The scholarship is valued at approximately $22,500 dollars.
