HARRISBURG - Two county officials and a county employee found themselves in legal trouble after being accused of sexual acts and drinking alcohol at the Banner County Courthouse on Dec. 28, 2021.

According to the Star-Herald, Monty Stoddard, 58, Bernice Huffman, 47, and Caily Reece, 32, all of Harrisburg, are charged with public indecency (Class II misdemeanor), and consuming alcohol on public property (a Class IV misdemeanor).

Stoddard serves as the county treasurer and Huffman is the county assessor. Both are unchallenged in the upcoming election.

Banner County Clerk Lisa Cross told the Star-Herald there have been no emergency meetings of commissioners officially called between Dec. 28 and the regular March 1 meeting.

Probable cause affidavits weren’t filed in any of the three cases. The three defendants appeared for arraignment on Wednesday. Reece is scheduled to appear in court on April 4. Huffman and Stoddard are both scheduled to appear April 5.
