SIDNEY - On Thursday, Lydia Peters signed a Letter-of-Intent to continue her athletic career next year. The Sidney senior will take her Cross Country and Track talents to Chadron State College to compete for the Eagles.

After looking at three or four other schools, she chose CSC for a multitude of reasons. "The reason that I chose Chadron because I get the opportunity to run,” Peters says. “But also it's cheap, it's close, I know a lot of people there, and they also have a really good program for the degree I want to go into." That degree would be biology with an interest in marine biology and zoology.

Peters heads into her last high school track season this spring coming off a successful Cross Country campaign last Fall. She finished in the top-10 in 7 of Sidney’s 9 meets, including a 3rd place finish at the Western Conference meet in Gering. Peters’ 15th place finish in the 118-runner field of the Class C NSAA State Cross Country Championships in Kearney, help propel Sidney to the girls state team championship.

On the track last spring, Peters competed in the 3200 Meter and the 4x800 Relay. Fighting injury, she finished in the top-10 in 4 of 7 her 3200 Meter races with a season best time of 13:30.12. She ran her personal best time of 13:25.78 as a sophomore. Peters as part of the 4x800 relay, helped the team to 7 top-3 finishes including a pair of first places in 8 outings.
