Sidney home track meet named the John Ganser meet

A long-time Sidney coach was honored by the Raiders' track and field program this week.

SIDNEY, Neb. -- A long-time Sidney coach was honored by the Raiders' track and field program this week.

The Sidney track and field team named its home meet after Coach John Ganser, who taught and coached at the school for 41 years.

Ganser coached track, football and wrestling for the Raiders.

Ganser said he remembers the talented athletes who did well, and he will never forget the athletes who tried hard for themselves and the team, who didn't make it all the way to State.

Ganser attended the John Ganser invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday.

Ganser said it was very encouraging to him seeing how much enthusiasm is currently in track. He said he commends everybody involved. 

"There's a lot of credit to the school, the coaches, and the kids," Ganser said.

Ganser wishes the athletes the best, saying both the boy's and girl's teams look good for Sidney this year.

Ganser said he was fortunate to be able to coach for 41 years and found it very rewarding.

"Work hard, have fun, compete, and win" Ganser said.
