SCOTTSBLUFF - Excessive speed and alcohol are being investigated as contributing factors in a deadly crash in Scottsbluff early Tuesday morning.

The Scottsbluff Police Department says Andres J. Gutierrez, age 30, of Scottsbluff, bypassed barricades on the closed Sugar Factory Road. When driving his Dodge Ram pickup truck on the southbound lanes, he struck a parked semi-tractor-trailer in the road at the intersection of 21st Ave. and E. 42nd St. at 12:12 a.m.

The road was closed due to electrical infrastructure repair caused by a severe wind event last weekend. There was construction equipment on the roadway.

Gutierrez, the lone occupant in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Nebraska State Patrol assisted in the investigation.  The Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department, City of Scottsbluff Fire Department and  Valley Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
