SIDNEY – Over 300 shoppers took to the streets of Sidney Saturday for the annual Girls Day Out event from the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce.
“Surpassed my expectation,” outgoing Chamber President/CEO McKailie Carnahan-Kuhns said. “A great turnout. I just want to thank the community for coming out and supporting local. Congratulations to our first 300 shoppers who got a bunch of free stuff.”
Girls Day Out started with a breakfast at the Sidney Elks Lodge at 7 a.m. and gift bags, featuring coupons and merchandise from local businesses, were handed out to the first 300 people at 9 a.m.
Carnahan-Kuhns said businesses across Cheyenne County participated this year.
“It’s a great way to get all of the businesses in town involved and get people walking in the doors of our awesome businesses,” Carnahan-Kuhns said.
Carnahan-Kuhns’ resignation from the Chamber takes effect on May 17. She says she was fortunate to be able to see out her last shopping event as the organization’s president and CEO.
“I’m honestly glad I got to stick around long enough to finish out this event,” Carnahan-Kuhns said. “A. Because I love to shop, and B. I’m just a big fan of supporting local. I’m from the area and love to give back, and statistically proven that if you spend more money within your community, it’s more likely to stay here.”
