Five Huskers earn World Team Trials berths as a total of 11 past and present Huskers took the mat at the UWW Junior and Senior Nationals this weekend. The events were held at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada from Tuesday, April 26 to Sunday, May 1.
Five Huskers in total competed at Senior Nationals, with Alex Thomsen (60 kg) wrestling Greco-Roman and Tyler Berger (70 kg), Collin Purinton (74 kg), Isaiah White (79 kg) and Christian Lance (125 kg) competing in the freestyle division.
Lance (sixth) and Purinton (third) earned World Team Trial berths with their finishes and will join Berger who had already previously qualified.
At UWW Junior Freestyle Nationals, Silas Allred (92 kg) led the contingent of six Huskers competing with a second-place finish. Allred won three-straight matches by bonus points before falling in the title match to Maryland's Jaxon Smith.
Allred's finish earns him a spot at the 2022 U.S. World Team Trials in June. Also earning qualifications to the Trials with top seven finishes in their respective weight classes were Elise Brown Ton (fourth) and Nathan Haas (sixth).
The remaining field of NU grapplers at Junior Nationals included Blake Cushing (65 kg), Joshua Licking (70 kg) and Zak Taylor (97 kg).
Huskers Set for Final Home Weekend
The Nebraska softball team will host Fan Appreciation Weekend when the Huskers play Indiana in their final home series of the season this weekend.
The weekend will begin on Friday at 5:30 p.m. when the first 500 fans will receive a free Nebraska softball water bottle.
Saturday's game features free general admission for all fans, with a new first pitch time of 4 p.m. to accommodate live television coverage on the Big Ten Network. The first 500 fans will receive a Nebraska softball blanket on Saturday. Following the game, Nebraska will celebrate its senior class with a Senior Day ceremony.
The series finale is set for Sunday at Noon. The first 500 fans will receive a Nebraska softball pint glass.
