Dawes County Attorney/Coroner Vance Haug says former Crawford Mayor Lawrence Joseph “L-J” Moloney passed away on Saturday morning of natural causes.

Moloney was found unresponsive in his home about 10:30 am. A Dawes County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived about 5 minutes later, determined Moloney was deceased, and contacted Haug.

Haug says a review of evidence at the scene, witness interviews, medical history, and consultation with medical professionals led to his determination of natural causes.

LJ Moloney was a retired railroad man who served as mayor of Crawford for 11 years in 3 non-consecutive terms: 1994-98, 1999-2002, and 2006-2010. Services are pending.
