SIDNEY, Neb. -- During the city council meeting on Tuesday, June 14th, Oya Grill on Illinois Street was approved a liquor license and the E3 group announced they will be touring Sidney in September.

Ricky Onate said he came to the meeting to speak on behalf of his father to get the liquor license for his business. Onate said the Oya Grill has been in business for almost 15 years.

“People have been asking us to get the liquor license for a long time,” Onate said. “We already had the State Patrol, and Department of Agriculture come in and inspect. The Fire Marshal finished their inspection, and we already got the permit for that. Now we are just waiting on the license,”

The council approved the liquor license for Oya Grill.

The E3 group introduced themselves to the council. This is a volunteer group made up of members from Cheyenne County.

Group Member Sarah Sinnett represented the group and stated the purpose of the group is to develop a network of resources in Sidney and Cheyenne County to drive opportunity through sustained investments in entrepreneurship and community improvement.

The group announced in September they will be touring Sidney to showcase the small businesses, resources, and what Sidney has to offer. The purpose of this is to encourage individuals to expand or start their business in town.

“At least 50 people will be coming to Sidney from different communities,” Sinnett said. “Our hotels will be full, our businesses will be full. The target goal is to show people all of the things Sidney is great at,”

In other council business, community member Sarah Elston was appointed to the Historical Board Committee.

Elston and her husband work full time and are in the process of opening a storefront in Sidney.

“It interests me to see the community improve,” Signets said. “I want to be able to help with that [improving the community]”
