Sidney Seniors stumble at Ogallala
OGALLALA – The Sidney American Legion Seniors’ road woes continued Tuesday at Ogallala. Sidney was only able to muster two runs on no hits in a 10-2, five-inning loss to the Ogallala Post 135 Adams Bank & Trust. The defeat dropped Sidney to 1-11 on the season while Ogallala improves to 13-3.
Sidney got on the board in the second inning thanks to a control problem from Ogallala starting pitcher Ian Shaw. Shaw struck out the first four Sidney batters he faced before his problems started on the mound. Three consecutive walks to Landon Riddle, Micah Schneider, and Blaine Russell loaded the bases for Sidney. Riddle scored from third on a wild pitch for Sidney’s first run with Schneider and Russell moving up on the play. Ty Stettner was then hit by a pitch to load the bases once again for Sidney. Rhyder Bayne drew a four-pitch walk to score Schneider from third to give Sidney a 2-0 lead. Aydan Halligan replaced Shaw for Ogallala on the mound to close out the inning.
Ogallala answered with one run on no hits in the bottom of the second to cut the Sidney lead in half. The third inning is when the Ogallala bats came to life. A pair of singles and a pair of doubles plated five runs to give Ogallala a 6-2 lead, an advantage they would not relinquish.
Over the last three innings, Sidney sent 10 batters to the plate. Seven struck out, two walked, and one hit a soft line-drive to the first baseman. Ogallala added a run in the fourth and pounded a double, a triple, and then a two-run home from Corbin Murphy to end the game in the fifth.
Ogallala scored 10 runs on eight hits and didn’t commit an error, while Sidney scored two runs on no hits and committed two errors.
Aydan Halligan got the win for Ogallala, throwing 3.2 no-hit innings, striking out seven and walking just three. Micah Schneider took the loss, giving up seven runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Sidney is back on the road Wednesday when they travel to Scottsbluff for a Junior/Senior doubleheader against Twin Cities. The Junior game starts at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Senior game at 7:00 p.m.
