SIDNEY, Neb. -- Authorities in the panhandle said a scam hit a Sidney business.

The Sidney Police Department said Saturday in the early morning hours a local business got a phone call from a person who was claiming to be a much higher member of the company's management team.

It was reported that the scammer had unique information that convinced the employee that the scammer knew the site manager.

Authorities said the scammer claimed, multiple times, they needed access to additional fund from the store because of an alleged Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigation.

Sidney Police said the scam artist was able to gain the cooperation of the employee, and the scammer had cash sent to them by using an overseas cell phone via a Bitcoin transaction.

This case is still under investigation by the Sidney Police Department.

It was also reported by the Sidney PD there had been another local business who had received a similar call.

The Sidney PD said they would like to make the local businesses and employees aware of this scam, and using gift cards or Bitcoin is never recommended.
