Lady Raiders Third at Twin City Invite

SCOTTSBLUFF/GERING - The Sidney Lady volleyball team went 4-2 at the Twin City Invitational Volleyball Tournament over the weekend. Sidney went 2-1 in Friday’s pool play and then 2-1 in Saturday’s bracket tournament to finish the weekend in third place.

Sidney opened Friday’s pool play by defeating Rapid City Central 25-22, 25-16. Junior Chloe Ahrens paced the Lady Raiders with 8 kills on 16 swings. Sidney faced Chadron in their second match, winning 25-22, 25-21 behind sophomore Kayla Westby’s 8 kills on .368 hitting. The final match of the night pitted Sidney against Crete for the second time this season. The Lady Raiders defeated the Cardinals 25-19, 25-23 in the Aurora Invite two weeks ago but this time Crete came out on top 25-21. 26-24. Karsyn Leeling and Chloe Ahrens each had 5 kills for the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Raiders qualified for Saturday’s championship bracket at Gering High School. Sidney opened bracket play Saturday morning by defeating Ogallala in straight sets, 25-7, 25-20. In the semifinals, the Lady Raiders faced the eventual tournament champion Rapid City Stevens, falling 25-22, 25-20. Sidney bounced back in the third-place game to defeat Gering in straight sets 25-18, 25-19.

Sidney has the week off before competing in the Western Conference Tournament in Scottsbluff on Saturday.
