SIDNEY - Approximately 25 volunteers spent Tuesday morning packing sacks with bread, milk, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly, fruit, and other items for those in-need during a food drive held by the United Way of Western Nebraska.

Among the volunteers at the WNCC - Sidney Campus were employees from UPS, Nelnet, Black Hills Energy, Beans & Steams Coffee House, and PlainsWest CASA.

Volunteer Brad Sherman has been involved with United Way of Western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff and Box Butte Counties. He says it's good to see all the different avenues available people can use if they need assistance.

"They do a lot of great work," Sherman said. "They do work for different charities and different 501C3's. Whenever you give to the United Way, it gets out to the communities that we live in. We end up delivering to most of the communities in the Panhandle."

Sherman is impressed whenever there's an event, or a need, people of Sidney always step up.

The food, which was delivered to families in-need and the elderly Tuesday afternoon, was purchased by the United Way of Western Nebraska using money from sponsors and grants.

United Way of Western Nebraska will host another food drive on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in Kimball.
