SIDNEY - A strong cold front, with widespread snow accumulations, is expected to sweep across the Sidney area early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service says confidence is slowly growing in a potent system across the central plains into the northern plains early Tuesday into Wednesday. Depending how the storm system develops, and where it tracks, it could lead to winter impacts for either eastern Wyoming and the northern Nebraska Panhandle, or the southern/central panhandle and southwest Nebraska. Northeast Colorado would also be affected in the second scenario.
According to the NWS, when winter storms threaten, it's not uncommon to see various sources posting modeled snowfall amounts that can often be highly unrealistic. The National Weather Service office in Cheyenne only posts official snowfall forecasts based on thorough analysis of all available guidance and tools.
Where the low pressure system develops will significantly influence the storm track and result of snowfall amounts and storm duration.
The current forecast calls for a 50% chance of rain and snow before 8 p.m. Monday night with "snow likely" on Tuesday morning. The high Tuesday is expected to be 26 with blustery conditions.
