SIDNEY - A driver was taken to Sidney Regional Medical Center by ambulance as a precaution after the vehicle they were driving slammed into a road sign on the eastbound interstate off-ramp at exit 59 in Sidney at approximately 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Lisa Sargent, of Dix, was driving a 2014 Toyota Corolla when she told authorities she swerved to miss something in the road, lost control of the car, and hit the sign off the right-hand shoulder at 70 mph. The car, which suffered major front-end damage, eventually came to a stop on a hill off the road. Airbags didn't deploy, according to reports.
The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department was called to scene for possible smoke from the engine and liquids leaking from the vehicle.
Sargent was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Sidney Police Department, Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Potter Volunteer Fire Department Command, and Regional West Emergency Services Ambulance also responded to the scene.
