Fair Board expects improved '23 event
The Cheyenne County Fair Board is busy finalizing details for the 2023 county fair.
Board Treasurer Kip Miller met with the Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners Monday to. give an update on the fair board and next year's fair. He said the board has had some "good, productive meetings" recently.
The board received a bid from Cervi Rodeo in Greeley, Colo., in its November meeting for the 2023 Cheyenne County Fair rodeo. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, December, 19.
Miller said he expects the rodeo to be better than last year. He cited Cervi's networking as an asset for Cheyenne County.
"It ought to be a good deal for us," Miller said.
He told the commissioners the 2023 Fair will focus on Wednesday through Saturday. The fair board is also working on bringing a carnival back to the fair.
He said the rodeo will be sanctioned by the PRCA. It won't be rough stock only, but a full rodeo, he added.
Miller said the Fair Board is planning to have a tractor pull on Thursday of Fair Week. Friday, historically featuring concert entertainment, is still worked out. The board is working on concert options.
"We're on the right track. The only thing we're waiting on is the concert contract," he said.
The Fair Board is working with Romeo Talent Agency to secure a performer for the Friday Night Show. He said the concert agency is looking at what performers are available for the Fair Board's budget, and the type of music that would interest western Nebraska demographics.
Miller said he and the board appreciates the commissioners' support; now the fair board needs community support for the fair.
