KIMBALL, Neb.- "I need to hurry outside, I'm pretty sure I'm parked someplace I shouldn't be," longtime Kimball resident, Carolyn said.  Carolyn and about 10 others had dug out and made it to the Main Street Market in Kimball at noon on Friday. Most were parked in guesstimated spots as a tractor with a plow, more commonly seen in a silage pit, tried to clear the markets parking lot down to the lines.

Most of Kimball had the same problem Friday, with most parking lots still covered, driveways blocked by plowed snow and even well traveled streets that remained snow packed.  The City is in a snow emergency according to city clerk Kim Barnwell. That means there is no parking on snow routes while state, county and local crews continue to try to clear major arteries through the town.

The snow clearing process has been complicated by low temperatures which means the snow isn't melting, and high winds, which means it is blowing back over the roads overnight, if not within minutes of being cleared. With temperature only to reach the mid-thirties next week, the problem could persist.

The snow that won't go away isn't the only problem the city faces.  Many roads, including Highways 71 and 30 remain closed just outside of town Kim Barnwell also notified us that the Board of Public Works meeting had been pushed to Friday night do to the storm. The city library that had been closed for three days was forced to close around noon on Friday because it lost heat. And the Kimball Schools were forced to remain closed for a fourth consecutive day.
