SIDNEY - Drivers can begin using county roads in Cheyenne County once again.

Sheriff Adam Frerichs announced county roads reopened at 2:30 p.m. Saturday after being closed the majority of the week because of a major snow storm that struck the area on Tuesday.

"The guys have made a lot of headway on their road graders and trucks. They have most of the main roads opened up right now," Frerichs said. "But be advised that there are a lot of miles that they haven't been down yet. Some roads are still drifted and blown closed. Please use caution when you venture out."

Road crews continue to work this weekend to open remaining roads, according to Frerichs.

The storm produced heavy and blowing snow, causing damage to property and infrastructure across the panhandle. High snow drifts from the storm prevented emergency access to remote locations.
