Sidney Elks Lodge hosting 'Casino Night' on New Year's Eve in support of building renovation project
SIDNEY -- The Sidney Elks Lodge is inviting the public to roll some dice, put down some cards, enjoy food drink and friendship at the closing of one year and beginning of the next.
The theme of the night is "Roaring 20s" attire, or come dressed comfortable.
Casino Night is set to celebrate 2023 and the ending of 2022 at the Sidney Elks Lodge. The night of games starts at 8 p.m. with a $75 ticket purchasing gaming and food for the night. Come early at receive food and drinks starting at 7 p.m. for an additional $25. Tickets include $250 in chips, hors d'oeuvres and champagne toast.
Proceeds from the night go toward the building renovation project.
"Everything we raise this night goes toward the project... after costs," said Elks Lodge member Rob Kuhns.
Updating the Elks Lodge will complete one of the goals of research projects including the City's Master Plan, according to Kuhns and Sidney Mayor Brad Sherman. Studies show the community needs an event center, a place for concerts, meetings and weddings.
"We want to turn it into more of an event center, on the main floor," Kuhns said. "Right now, we're the only place in town that can seat about 300, plus a bar and kitchen."
The plans include reducing the depth of the stage by about five feet, to its original stage, and eliminate the foyer at the west entrance, and women's bathroom at the east side of the main floor near the stage.
The Elks Lodge has been awarded a $400,000 grant for the building renovation. Estimates are currently at $2.2 million to complete needed upgrades to heating, HVAC, plumbing, lights and a lift system for ADA compliance.
"I truly think it would be a nice asset for Sidney," Kuhns said.
The City of Sidney, Elks Lodge members and project contractor are discussing options.
