Leyton boys remain unbeaten, girls earn eighth win
DALTON – Sophomore Zaili Benish had a game-high 23 points and the Leyton girls basketball team secured a 51-21 victory over Potter-Dix Friday night in Dalton.
Sophomore Shawnee Gamble chipped in with 13 points for the Warriors.
The Coyote’s were led by junior Madison Williamson who finished with seven points.
The Warriors (8-2) compete in the MAC Tournament semifinals next week. They will play the winner of Garden County (5-3) and Potter-Dix (3-6) this next Thursday in Bridgeport. The MAC Tournament semifinals and championship games will be carried live on 987 The Big Boy (98.7 FM, newschannelnebraska.com, and the free NCN app).
Potter-Dix hosts Hay Springs (9-2) on Saturday.
Over in the boy's game, Leyton came back in the fourth to take the lead and eventually get the 53-48 win over Potter-Dix. Junior Jonathon Kruse hit two free throws to give the Warriors a five-point lead at the end of the game. He finished with 16 points.
Senior Dillion Juelfs exploded in the second half, scoring 14 of his 16 points. Senior Cort Rummel added 13 points, while senior Justin Ernest contributed 10.
Senior Luke Kasten led the Coyotes with 27 points.
Leyton stays undefeated at 11-0 and will face Minatare (1-9) on Tuesday in the opening round of the MAC Tournament.
Potter-Dix hosts Hay Springs (6-4) on Saturday.
