KIMBALL, NE-- Kimball was spared by the worst of Wednesday's winter storm. A storm that brought more than a foot to some parts of the state, dropped 6-8 inches on Kimball. It was enough to close schools in and around the county and major east/west corridors like I-80 and Hwy 30 were shut down, in part due to the deeper snow to the east.

A snow emergency was declared and then extended through Thursday as snow plows hit the road early in the storm.

"The City of Kimball is continuing to clear streets during the snow today focusing on emergency routes and main roadways," City Administrator Annette Brower tells us. "The City offices and departments are open today for normal business hours, however, with the State road closures access to the landfill is limited. The City of Kimball Library is closed today due to weather conditions. The Library does plan to be open for normal business hours tomorrow as well as all other City departments."

Most residents stayed in Wednesday, with only a few cars on the road. Nebraska Coffee enjoyed a slower than usual day, as did Main Street Market. Both businesses were open and ready to serve those that ventured out in the storm but were not crowded.

While all indications are that Kimball will be back to normal by weeks end, light snow is expected in the region on Sunday.
