NU Notes: Huskers Earn 11 Bids to NCAA Championships
The Nebraska track and field team secured 11 bids to the NCAA Indoor Championships, set for March 10-11 in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Nebraska track and field team secured 11 bids to the NCAA Indoor Championships, set for March 10-11 in Albuquerque, N.M. The 11 entries are the most for the Huskers at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2011.
The top 16 student-athletes in each event qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships each year. Nebraska's qualifiers are Mayson Conner (high jump), Lishanna Ilves (long jump), Axelina Johansson (shot put), Taylor Latimer (weight throw) Darius Luff (60m hurdles), Maxwell Otterdahl (shot put and weight throw), Jenna Rogers (high jump), Brithton Senior (60m hurdles), Till Steinforth (heptathlon) and Jonah Wilson (shot put).
Live championship coverage will be streamed on ESPN+ on Friday, March 10 starting at 10:30 a.m. (CT) and Saturday, March 11 starting at 12:30 p.m. (CT). There will be two television re-airs of the meet. The first re-air will take place on Sunday, March 12 on ESPNU at 5 p.m. (CT). Nebraska's 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships Qualifiers

Mayson Conner, High Jump, 5th, 7-4 1/4 (2.24m) - won the Big Ten indoor high jump title for his fifth career Big Ten high jump gold medal...hit a new personal best this indoor season of 7-4 1/4 (2.24m), which ranks tied for ninth in school history...is a five-time All-American in the high jump, including a 13th-place finish at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships.
Lishanna Ilves, Long Jump, t-8th, 21-3 1/4 (6.48m) - was a second-team All-American at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing 16th...is a two-time Big Ten champion in the long jump and set a new indoor personal best of 21-3 1/4 (6.48m), the No. 4 long jump in school history.
Axelina Johansson, Shot Put, 2nd, 63-4 (19.30m) - broke the indoor school record with a mark of 63-4 (19.30m) this season and won the Big Ten indoor title...finished 11th at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships as a freshman and third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships...was named the Big Ten Women's Outdoor Freshman of the Year in 2022.
Taylor Latimer, Weight Throw, 14th, 73-0 3/4 (22.27m) - set a new weight throw school record four times during the indoor season, including a PR of 73-0 3/4 (22.27m) to finish fourth at the Big Ten Indoor Championships...making her first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships but was a two-time All-American in the shot put at Kansas State.
Darius Luff, 60m Hurdles, t-7th, 7.63 - won the Big Ten indoor title with a personal-best 7.63, the No. 3 time in school history, one year after entering the final as the favorite before being disqualified for a false start...was an All-American last year after finishing seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Maxwell Otterdahl, Shot Put, 9th, 65-10 1/4 (20.07m) - finished third at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and had a personal-best throw of 65-10 1/4 (20.07m) at the Texas Tech Open, the No. 4 throw in school history...was a first-team All-American in the shot put at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing eighth...won the Big Ten outdoor shot put and discus titles last season.
Maxwell Otterdahl, Weight Throw, 12th, 73-2 1/2 (22.31m) - placed fourth at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and set a new PR of 73-2 1/2 (22.31m) this season, the No. 2 mark in school history...was a first-team All-American in the shot put at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing eighth...won the Big Ten outdoor shot put and discus titles last season.
Jenna Rogers, High Jump, t-5th, 6-2 1/4 (1.89m) - was the Big Ten indoor high jump runner-up after clearing a personal-best.......won the Big Ten indoor and outdoor high jump titles in 2022 as a true freshman...was a two-time first-team All-American last year by finishing seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championships and tying for sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Brithton Senior, 60m Hurdles, t-12th, 7.69 - earned the Big Ten silver medal in the 60m hurdles behind teammate Darius Luff...ran a personal-best 7.69 this indoor season, the No. 5 time in school history...transferred to Nebraska from South Dakota for the 2023 season...was a second-team All-American at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing 10th.
Till Steinforth, Heptathlon, 4th, 6082 - broke the Nebraska school record in the heptathlon with 6,082 points at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational...did not compete in the heptathlon at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, but finished fourth in the long jump...making his first NCAA Championships appearance.
Jonah Wilson, Shot Put, 2nd, 68-5 (20.85m) - won the Big Ten indoor shot put title with a new personal best of 68-5 (20.85m), the No. 2 throw in school history...transferred to Nebraska from Washington for the 2023 season...was a three-time All-American at Washington, including a ninth-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Jorgenson Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships
Gena Jorgenson is set to wrap up her freshman season on the largest stage at the 2023 NCAA Championships, March 15-18 in Knoxville, Tenn. Jorgenson qualified for the event after swimming a school-record mile time of 16:13.54 at the Big Ten Championships.
The rookie from Aberdeen, S.D., was also invited to swim the 500 freestyle and the 400 IM, after posting NCAA B-Standard cuts in both events at the conference meet.
Action is set to begin on Wednesday, March 15 with the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay. Individual events start on Thursday morning with the prelims session scheduled for 9 a.m. (CT). Jorgenson will race in the 500 freestyle on Thursday, the 400 IM on Friday and the 1,650 freestyle on Saturday.
Jorgenson is among 281 swimmers across the nation that qualified. Divers will have the opportunity to earn a spot at nationals next week at the Zone Diving Championships.
The NCAA Championship meet can be viewed live on ESPN+ each day. Tape-delayed coverage will be available on ESPNU at 7:30 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday, March 29.

Maruyama Named Big Ten Athlete of the Week
Lincoln, Neb. - Shunya Maruyama was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week as the conference announced the award on Wednesday afternoon. Maruyama is the first Husker to win the award this season and last since Calvin Mueller claimed the honor in 2022.
The Nagano, Japan native went 2-0 this week, with both wins coming in the Husker victory over then-ranked No. 38 Alabama in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala.
Maruyama picked up a 6-1, 6-2, singles win over German Samofalov. Partnered with Roni Hietaranta, Maruyama also picked up a 6-0 doubles win over Joao Ferreira and Zach Foster.
Maruyama looks to continue his strong play as the Huskers travel to California to face No. 74 Ball State and take part in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships.
Alicea Named Big Ten Athlete of the Week
Lincoln, Neb. – After an undefeated performance this past weekend, Samantha Alicea has earned Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week. The conference announced the award on Wednesday afternoon and Alicea is the first Husker this season to win the award.
Alicea helped lead the team to an ITA team ranking of No. 47 after she swept the weekend 6-0. Alicea grabbed three singles wins and three doubles victories with her doubles partner Raphaëlle Lacasse.
The Miami, Florida native defeated Colorado's Mila Stanojevic 7-5, 6-2 on Friday afternoon. On Sunday, Alicea bested both Wyoming's Maria Oreshkina 6-4, 6-3 and Kansas City's Laura Munoz-Baroja 6-2, 6-1 in singles play.
In doubles play, Alicea and Lacasse beat Colorado's Stanojevic and Elys Ventura 6-2 on Friday. The pair dominated on Sunday defeating Wyoming's Sophie Zehender and Ana Fernandez 6-2 and Kansas City's Munez-Baroja and Michela Xibilia 6-1.
Alicea will continue her fierce play as the Huskers host Wichita State on March 10 at 5.pm. CT at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
Huskers Finish Perfect at Home in Beach Play
The Nebraska beach volleyball team won two matches on Wednesday at the Hawks Championship Center to finish the home portion of their schedule with a perfect 4-0 record.
On Wednesday, Nebraska beat Oklahoma Wesleyan, 5-0, and Ottawa (Kan.), 5-0. All five Husker pairs swept their matches in straight sets. All six Husker pairs have won all eight sets they've played so far this season.
The Huskers will leave for Gulf Shores, Ala., on Thursday for four matches in two days. Nebraska will play Huntingdon College at 7:30 a.m. on Friday at West Public Beach in Gulf Shores, followed by a match against Spring Hill on Friday at 9:30 a.m.
On Saturday, Nebraska will face Florida Memorial at 7:30 a.m. and the University of Mobile at 10:30 a.m. The Huskers will then return home for a week of classes before departing for Hawaii.

Huskers Return Home for Big Red Invitational
Lincoln, Neb. - After eight away tournaments including two titles, the Nebraska bowling team returns home to host the 2023 Big Red Invitational at Hollywood Bowl.
This weekend, Nebraska will host nine teams, six of them ranked in the top 25. The participating schools are No. 4 Arkansas State, No. 7 Youngstown State, No. 13 Newman, No. 17 Central Missouri, No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 21 Lincoln Memorial, Quincy, Upper Iowa and Valparaiso.
The Huskers will kick off the tournament Friday at 9:00 a.m. (CT) with five matches of five baker games total pinfall beginning with Upper Iowa, followed by matches against Wisconsin-Whitewater, Lincoln Memorial, Central Missouri and Arkansas State to round out the day. Saturday will consist of each team participating in five matches of traditional games starting at 9:00 a.m. (CT).
The championship trophy of the Big Red Invitational is awarded to the team with the highest overall total pinfall and per-game average over all three days of competition. On Sunday, each team will compete in two matches of best 4-of-7 baker games in seeded pool rounds based off total pinfall and the top three teams with highest averages will be awarded.
