SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - Regional West Medical Center showcased the latest era of surgical innovation to date.

Regional West’s robotic surgery suites first opened back in February 2020 and the da Vinci Robotic Surgery System has performed over 1,300 robotic surgeries at Regional West to date. The robotic system combines the best features of traditional open and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.

Bradley Hertzler, MD, MDiv, FACS, a surgeon with Regional West Physicians Clinic-Surgery, Vascular Diagnostics, said robotic surgery offers patients the latest in surgical innovation.

“Robotic surgery is well-suited to many types of surgeries, and it allows our patients to get the best possible surgical care without going far from home. Regional West is proud to offer this service to our region’s patients,” he said.

Karissa Johnson, Physicians Clinic-Women Center physician says, “The da Vinci allows us to have 3-D visualization as well as more maneuverability than just doing laparoscopic surgery. It allows us to do more minimally invasive surgery on more difficult cases, where previously we would have to do open procedures. This allows our patients to sometimes go home the same day or have a shorter hospital stay.”
