GERING, Neb. (KNEP) - The Gering City Council received an annual report from the Gering Fire Department.

On Monday, The Gering City Council received a report from Gering Fire Department Chief Nathan Flowers. During this report, Flowers highlighted the number of calls the department went on, what it was able to update with funding it received from the Mutual Financial Assistance Fund, as well as what the department members were able to complete.

“We ran 963 calls for service which was an 18% increase from the previous year this was one of the largest chunks of calls we’ve seen in a 12-month period and the most calls we have ever had for the fire department,” mentioned Flowers.

The fire department spend 12,371 hours on both its fire and its EMS calls, and spent a total of 21,330 hours on all Fire Department activities, with the report mentioning 71% of calls being used for medical, vehicle accidents and rescues.

Flowers as well highlighted some of the department’s community impact, with it being able to host community wide events, and invest more time and resources into the Gering High School Public Safety Academy.
