Flooding early Friday in southwest Nebraska

Heavy rains are battering parts of southwest Nebraska Friday morning.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Flood warnings have been issued in southwest Nebraska.

Hayes and Frontier Counties are in flood warnings until 12:30 p.m. CT/11:30 a.m. MT. Dundy and Hitchcock Counties are in a flood warning until 1:00 p.m. CT/12:00 p.m. MT. Chase County is in a flood warning until 2:15 p.m. CT/1:15 p.m. MT.

There is also a flash flood warning in Hayes County until 12:00 p.m. CT/11:00 a.m. MT.

Portions of southwest Nebraska, including McCook and Red Willow County, faced significant downpours early Friday.

There have been closures to Highway 6, Highway 30, Highway 61, Highway 34 and Highway 25 in southwest Nebraska due to flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, several campers were reported stranded near the sand pit area north of Palisade.

Heavy rain was expected to taper off by mid-morning, but an additional 1-to-2 inches of rain remains possible in Hayes County.
