Alliance’s Big 5th Inning Dooms Sidney Seniors
A huge fifth inning by Alliance doomed the Sidney American Legion Seniors Wednesday night at legion Field in Sidney.
SIDNEY - A huge fifth inning by Alliance doomed the Sidney American Legion Seniors Wednesday night at legion Field in Sidney. Trailing 5-0 heading into the inning, Sidney gave up six runs to fall behind 11-0. Sidney’s only two runs of the game came in the bottom of the inning to fall to the Peltz Company Spartans 11-2 in five innings. Alliance had 11 runs on nine hits while Sidney scored two runs on four hits and committed 2 errors.
Reid Fiscus, who started on the mound for the Sidney Seniors, kept the game scoreless through his first two innings of work, striking out one while giving up a hit and a walk. But a single to lead off the third inning by Espen Lanik, followed by a one-out triple by Ashton Ross and a Tony Escamilla double put Alliance ahead 2-0 after two and a half innings.
A pair of walks and a double by Tyzen Brown to open the fourth inning increased the Alliance lead to 3-0 and end the night on the hill for Fiscus. A Sidney error and another double by Alliance added to the margin as the Spartans took a 5-0 lead after three and a half innings.
Micah Schneider started on the mound for Alliance and picked up the win for Alliance, giving up just two hits while striking out six. Schneider threw 56 pitches, 38 for strikes, and faced just 15 batters in his four innings of work. Reid Fiscus took the loss for Sidney and surrendered five runs on five hits while striking out one and walking four.
Sidney hit just .105 for the game while the Peltz Company Spartans hit a blistering .458.
In the opening game at Legion Field, the Sidney Juniors defeated Alliance 11-4.
