LINCOLN, Neb. -- Authorities said an inmate, who was sentenced for a murder that happened in Lincoln County several years ago, died Friday morning while incarcerated. 

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said that 54-year-old David Saxton Friday morning at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC) where he was incarcerated. 

Saxton started his sentence July 27, 2015, and was serving 30 years to life for second-degree murder out of Lincoln County. 

Officials said that while Saxton's death has not yet been determined, he was being treated for a medical condition. 

As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the NDCS, a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
