Representative Adrian Smith (NE-3) has announced he will co-sponsor four separate bills in the US House of Representatives that will support law enforcement. He cites statistics that say violence against police officers is up 22% in just one year.

Smith will cosponsor House Resolution 69 that will condemns calls to defund or abolish the police. The resolution will express recognition and appreciation for law enforcement officers.

Smith will also cosponsor House Resolution 734, titled the Protect and Serve Act. It would impose criminal penalties for assaulting and causing injury to an officer of the law. Smith says it will increase legal protections for those officers.

Smith will also cosponsor House resolution 412. 412 will name the US Post Office in McAllen, TX in honor of Raul Gonzalez Jr., The US Border Patrol agent who died in the line of duty in December 2022.

Finally, Smith will cosponsor House Resolution 1650, the Police Officers Protecting Children Act. If passed, the bill would codify protections for police officers carrying concealed weapons, ensuring they are not subject to the federal prohibition of guns in school zones.
