SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - The Western Nebraska Regional Airport is closed to allow for repaving of the runways.

The Western Nebraska Regional Airport has closed both of its runways to fixed wing aircraft to allow for the intersection of both runways to be repaved. The closure started on Monday and is expected to last for 10 days.

“My hope is that by sometime tomorrow or by Saturday they got the intersection paving done so that we can reopen the runway a little bit, that will still not change anything for commercial service but it will allow our local people to start flying out of our airport again which is just as important as anything for us,” Raul Aguallo, the director for the Western Nebraska Regional Airport said.

The repaving project comes after the runways have been in use for 20 years and the airport received $12,132,000 from the Nebraska Department of Transportation to rehabilitate the runways.

The airport is not closed to helicopter use. If people wish to find out more about the closure the airport can be contacted 308-635-4941.
