CSC rodeo team competes at Riverton

RIVERTON, Wyo. -- After showing lots of promise at the home rodeo the previous weekend, the Chadron State College rodeo contestants didn't fare as well at the Central Wyoming College extravaganza last weekend in Riverton.

Three Eagles reached the finals in their events, but just one of them placed among the top six to earn points.

The latter was senior Grant Turek of St. Paul, Neb. He caught and tied his calves in 10.2 and 11.1 seconds, good for fifth place. He was fourth in the event at the CSC rodeo.

Senior Jack Skavdahl of Sioux County won the saddle bronc riding at the CSC rodeo by earning 80 and 78 points. After drawing a not-so-great horse in the first go-round at Riverton while tallying 69 points, he knew he was a long way from the top going into the Sunday's finals.

Hoping to take up much of the slack, Skavdahl tried to impress the judges by riding with extra gusto in the finals and was bucked off.

The third CSC finalist was junior Elle Ravenscroft of Nenzel, who placed sixth among the 91 barrel racers at the home rodeo.  She had runs of 18.30 and 18.50 seconds at Riverton and was seventh in the final standings this time, not far from earning points.

Camryn Kocian of Eastern Wyoming College at Torrington won the barrels last weekend with a pair of 18.09-second marks.

The Central Rocky Mountain Region rodeo this weekend is at Sheridan College in northern Wyoming.
