Commissioners approve county levies

SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County Commissioners started today's commissioners meeting as the board of equalization.  As the board of equalization, the commissioners approved the tax levies for the county.

SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County Commissioners started today's commissioners meeting as the board of equalization. 

As the board of equalization, the commissioners approved the tax levies for the county.

Cheyenne County Clerk Beth Fiegenschuh said the county's property tax request for the General Fund is $6,195,000, and $68,500 for the county fair. 

She said the Operating Budget shows $22.7 million for 2023, a 20 percent change. However, she stressed there are funds, such as ARPA at $1.5 million and a $3.2 million Economic Development fund. ARPA is the American Rescue Plan Act federal funds and the Economic Development fund is a pass-through grant from the federal government. Cheyenne County government's total ask is $6,263,500. The county's mill levy request decreased by 3.6 percent.

The commissioners, acting as the Board of Equalization, approved the county mill levies 3-0.

The board also approved an amended three-year Plan of Assessment.
