Local business owner arrested after shooting at Kimball motel

KIMBALL - Leota Kant, 86, has been arrested for attempted murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony and discharging a weapon within city limits.
The Nebraska State Patrol made the arrest after Kimball Police requested they takeover the investigation into a shooting in Kimball.
Just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Kimball Police and Kimball County Sheriff's were called to the Finer Motel, at 4306 East Highway 30 in Kimball, on a report of a shooting.
A male victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken by ambulance to Kimball Health Services before being transferred to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. It is believed his injuries are not life-threatening.
Kant, the owner of the motel where the shooting occurred, was lodged into Garden County Jail Tuesday.
The victim, who has not been named by authorities, was a guest at the motel.
There's no threat to the public. The incident remains under investigation.
