Kimball -- Children ages 5-12 are invited to attend the library on Thursdays from 3:45-4:45 for the Library Explorers class.
This class is a way for kids to get hands-on learning in a fun and creative way.
One week, the kids were challenged to make an egg zipline. They were paired up to make a harness that would carry the egg down the zipline without falling off. The first run, they started with an empty plastic easter egg, then they added 4 marbles, then 4 more. At the end, the kids talked about why the eggs went down the zipline faster with every increase of weight.
“Library Explorers really works to develop their math, technology — the basic STEAM things,” Kimball Library Director Amber Sweetland said. “But it also helps them to work in group settings to problem solve.”
The last day of Library Explorers is May 9. The librarians will then prepare for the upcoming summer program: Summer Reading, which starts May 29.
“Summer reading is a big deal for libraries everywhere,” Sweetland said. “The theme this year is ‘Adventure begins at your library,’ so we are kind of taking it in an outdoorsy direction.”
Come July and August, the library will not be hosting any special activities.
