KIMBALL -- The Kimball Jr./Sr. High School students received awards Monday Night at Longhorn Recognition Night.

The ceremony included awards in athletics, academics, scholarships, music, and other activities. The parents of senior student athletes and music students received a bouquet of flowers in recognition for supporting their kids through their athletic and music endeavors.

Principal Danielle Reader announced and presented the Valedictorian, Grace Anderson, and Salutatorian, Aspen Kiefer, with their trophies and certificates.

Anderson said: “I’m excited about [valedictorian] because I feel like I worked really hard for it. I’m also glad I got a lot of scholarships because college is expensive.”

Julia Winstrom won academic All-Around Girl and Academic All-State. Her favorite athletic award was being recognized by the coaches for having a good attitude.

Landon Norberg won academic All-Around Boy, along with a collection of band, athletic and other academic awards.

“It’s been a fun year and I’m excited to see what all my classmates and I do in the future,” he said.

Shannen Acheson won a collection of academic and athletic awards. The two awards she is most proud of are the Principals Honor Roll for having a 4.0 GPA and the NSAA Multi-Activity Award.

“I think overall it was a really good school year,” Acheson said. “We had a lot of good people on all of our teams, so it was really fun.”

Activities Director Darrell Howitt created a new award called the Academic Cup which is given to the sports team that has the highest team GPA.

First place went to the volleyball team with a 3.59 GPA. The girls’ basketball team came in second with a 3.56 GPA. Third place went to the girl’s golf team with a 3.54 GPA.

The Academic Cup is a big trophy about 3 ft tall that will go up in a prominent place in the school with a plaque that has the team’s name printed on it.

Each student in each grade received a packet that contained the certificates of their awards and/or participation in athletics, activities and academics.

Reader said: “I am blown away by our amazing students who we are lucky enough to have walk our halls every day. I’m amazed by their accomplishments.”
