KIMBALL -- The Summer 2024 Future Lady Longhorn Camp is coming up at the end of the month where girls will learn the individual fundamentals and team culture of basketball and volleyball.

The camp is June 24 – 25 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. It is open to girls from 3rd grade through 8th grade. The camp is $50 for both sports or $25 to participate in one of the sports. Lunch will be included.

Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Jaclyn Burks said the camp will consist of drills to teach the girls the basics and playing quite a few games, so they stay engaged and have fun throughout the day.

She and the rest of the basketball and volleyball staff will focus on the fundamentals of the two sports, how to be a successful teammate, and how to have a successful career.

The 3rd – 5th graders will play basketball in the mornings and volleyball in the afternoons while the 6th – 8th graders will play volleyball in the mornings and basketball in the afternoons.

The coaches will also give out prizes with awards like the most improved player throughout the camp, best setter in volleyball, and best passer in basketball.

The high school players will be there to give tips and be able to provide one-on-one time with the girls.

“We like to foster that big sister program through this,” Burks said.

The older girls benefit by having experience teaching what they know, and the little girls will have a stronger reason to support them by going to games and getting involved in the sports themselves as they get older.

“We just want to get girls interested in sports,” Burks said. “We really want Kimball to become competitive, and that starts when they’re young.”

Parents can find the sign-up form on the KPS App or request a form by emailing [email protected] or [email protected]. You can register up until the start of the first day, but if you want to guarantee your child gets a T-shirt, then sign up by the end of this week into early next week.
