Suspect arrested in child abduction attempt
Thomas Gallegos, 56, of Sterling, Colo., is in custody regarding an attempted child abduction on October 15 in Sterling.

STERLING, Colo. -- Early on October 15, Sterling Police responded to an attempted child abduction in the 300 block of Walnut Street.
An 8-year-old child was assaulted inside of her bedroom and fought with the assailant who fled before the police arrived.
With the potential community threat of this serious crime, Sterling Patrol Officers and Detectives worked tirelessly around the clock seeking leads and gathering evidence. A significant amount of digital, forensic and physical evidence led to the identification and arrest of a suspect.
At about 10:20 a.m. today, October 19, an arrest warrant was obtained for Thomas Gallegos, 56, of Sterling. Gallegos is jailed and charged with the following crimes:
1. 1st Degree Burglary C.R.S. 18-4-202 Class 3F
2. 2nd Degree Assault C.R.S. 18-3-203 Class 4F
3. Attempt 2nd Deg. Kidnapping C.R.S. 18-3-302 Class 5F
4. Third Degree Assault C.R.S. 18-3-204 Class 1 Misdemeanor.
5. Child Abuse C.R.S. 18-6-401 Class 1 Misdemeanor.
The Sterling Police Department wishes to thank the community for their assistance in taking a dangerous predator off the streets. There are no other suspects associated with this crime and no continued threat to the community.
