Lady Raiders Fall to Gering on Senior Night
The Sidney volleyball team ended their regular season Tuesday against Gering. The Lady Raiders lost a hard-fought match to their Western Conference foe, 29-27, 25-19, 25-22 on Senior Night at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility.
SIDNEY – The Sidney volleyball team ended their regular season Tuesday against Gering. The Lady Raiders lost a hard-fought match to their Western Conference foe, 29-27, 25-19, 25-22 on Senior Night at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility.
The first set went back hand forth with both teams having set-points until the Bulldogs came away with the 29-27 win. The second set started as tight as the first. With Sidney leading 10-9, Gering exploded for a 15-3 run to take a 24-13 advantage. The Lady Raiders fought off six straight set-points before falling 25-19.
Both teams battled in the final set from the opening serve. The set was tied 12 times with the last coming at 21-21. But a pair of sophomores helped the Bulldogs close out the match with an ace serve from Jacey Cochran and a pair of kills from Jaxie John for a 25-22 win.
Sidney was led by junior Kierra Schrader with 10 kills while sophomore Reagan Nesbitt adding nine kills. Jaxie John led the Bulldogs with 14 kills and Jacey Cochran added 11 kills.
Gering improves to 21-11 on the season and will host cross-town rival Scottsbluff on Thursday. Sidney, who falls to 16-16, is off until the B-8 Sub-District on Tuesday, October 29th and Wednesday, October 30th with Alliance, Gering, and Scottsbluff.
