The Kimball County Assessors office is seeking to more accurately assess land based off its land use classification.  In a letter dated October 23rd, 2024 and signed by assessor Sherry Winstrom, the office requests updated information on "acres enrolled in the USDA Conservation Reserve Program, including contracts for Grassland CRP."

The letter includes a privacy information release request data form from the Farm Service's Agency. The form seeks the name, address and last four digits of the Social Security number of the recipient.  It then asks for an authorization to release information to a third party, specified as the Kimball County Assessor's Office.

According to the assessor's office, the letters go out annually right after the 1st of October which is when most of these USDA programs renew. They use the information to classify the land use of the property as irrigated, dry land, or conservation. This helps the assessor accurately assess the different parts of each landowners property.

Landowners and producers with questions about the letter or its purpose can reach out to the assessor's office at 308-235-2362 or the local Farm Service Agency's office at 308-235-2822. The assessor needs the information no later than December 31st.
