CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Scottsbluff’s Anthony Shifflett secured a first-place finish, pinning Cheyenne East’s Shaiden Casner in just 57 seconds in the finals of the 106-pound division, and the Bearcats finished 10th at the Charlie Lake wrestling tournament in Cheyenne Saturday.

Teammate Oscar Brown (113) took second after falling to Windsor’s Maddox Lechman. In the 285-pound division, Daylon Adams claimed third with a quick 59-second pin over Cheyenne East’s Isaac Clay.

Sidney’s Patrick McCartney (190) emerged victorious in the third-place match, defeating Poudre’s Ryder Clarkson, 9-4. Freshman Cayson Boltjes (215) earned a major decision over Chatfield's Harper Packebush to finish in third.

Torrington’s Barrett Eichenberger (144) earned third place with a 5-4 decision over Moorcroft’s Braydnn Terry. Brendan Woodard (165) finished with a third-place finish by pinning Erie’s Tyler Muir in 1:47. Colby Sandusky (157) added a fourth-place finish for Torrington.

Ogallala’s Diego Juarez (106) finished fourth after a tough semifinal loss and a major decision against Thompson Valley’s Anthony Castillo in the third-place bout.

Torrington finished 14th, Sidney ranked 16th and Ogallala placed 20th in the team standings. 

Alliance wrestlers excel at Gordon-Rushville Invite

GORDON, Neb. - Alliance’s Coy Childers (113) earned first place with a technical fall and a major decision victory in his matches and the Bulldogs won the Gordon-Rushville wrestling invitational Saturday in Gordon. Trini Trejo (126) also captured gold with a decisive 19-3 technical fall in the finals.

Jaxon Kearns (120) led Gordon-Rushville with a technical fall victory to claim first. Alliance’s Colter Tolstedt (285) finished as runner-up, while South Platte’s Drake Arensdorf (138) earned silver in a hard-fought 15-9 decision.

Bridgeport's Cole Katen (215) took second after a six-minute final, while Taylor Eichthaler (132) secured fifth. Kyler Mills (106) earned fifth and Jose Arreola (157) claimed fourth and Kooper Rahmig (285) placed fourth.

On the girls’ side, Bridgeport’s Elizabeth Menke (G-120) dominated with a pin in 2:50 to take first, while Cammie Rader (G-140) finished second.

Gordon-Rushville’s Jenifer Banister (G-130) secured a gold medal with a pin in the finals, and Stormy Tesch (G-145) claimed third with a first-period fall.

Leyton’s Faith Lee (G-120) took fourth after a competitive tournament.

The Bridgeport boys ranked fourth with 177 points and Gordon-Rushville finished third with 183.5. On the girls’ side, Bridgeport placed second, tallying 148.5 points.
