On a night that marked the return to action for the longhorn basketball teams after a two week holiday break, the Kimball boys picked up right where they left off with a dominating performance over the South Platte Knights of Big Springs. The lady longhorns fell to the lady knights, a strong district contender.

The lady longhorns opened the game competitively, scoring four points in the first two minutes while holding the lady knights under ten through most of the first quarter. It was in the second quarter that the longhorns got just one point off a JaLeigh Bohac free throw, while the knights pulled away. Knights senior and leading scorer on the season, Johanna Frerichs led the team to victory with the help of fellow seniors Isabelle Reichman and Zaerihya Doncheske. While the longhorns put on a late game comeback, the knights won 49-20.

The boys game was higher scoring, but didn't stay competitive for long with the longhorns putting on a successful full court press to cause a number of turnovers early and to lead by 10 at the end of the first quarter. To spite leaving the game with an injury in the second quarter, Kyler Lusche returned in the second half to lead the team in points and rebounds. 3-point specialist Braxton Miller brother Ryker and Lincoln Behrend also had strong showings. The longhorns won the game 82-43.

Both longhorn teams will be in action again Friday, January 10th beginning at 5:30pm. Those games will be carried on 104.3 KIMB and 1043kimb.com.
