Truck vs. fire hydrant accident could result in long term street closures and water line issues in Kimball
It was just after 4:00 am on Wednesday when emergency responders received a call of a truck that had hit the fire hydrant across the street from the Main Street Market on Hwy 30 in Kimball. The truck apparently attempted to back off of, than drive forward again on top of the hydrant creating high pressure surges of water in the lines throughout Kimball.
The high pressure surges led to a water main break on Washington St. between 3rd and 4th streets, leaving many citizens of Washington without water until after 7:00 pm Wednesday night.
Larger repairs of the hydrant and surrounding water lines on Hwy 30 will begin Thursday morning. NDOT is expected to be on scene so that they can decide on appropriate closures and detours. There is not an estimated time of completion for this project.
