SIDNEY - A winter storm is bringing snow and hazardous travel conditions to parts of the southern Nebraska Panhandle and northeast Colorado, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service reports total snowfall accumulations will range from 2 to 4 inches in Nebraska’s Cheyenne and Kimball counties and 2 to 5 inches across northeast and east-central Colorado, including Logan, Sedgwick and Phillips counties. Areas impacted include Sidney, Kimball, Cheyenne, Brownson, Sterling and Julesburg.

The snowfall, combined with very cold temperatures, will make roads, bridges and overpasses slick and hazardous. Commuters should expect difficult driving conditions, particularly during the Wednesday morning commutes. Authorities urge drivers to slow down and use caution while traveling.

The storm has also forced multiple school districts to adjust schedules. Schools closed Wednesday include Dundy County-Stratton Public Schools in Benkelman; Merino Schools; Ogallala Public Schools; Paxton Consolidated Schools; and Wauneta-Palisade Public Schools. Several schools will have delayed starts. Fleming Schools, Haxtun RE-2J Schools and Holyoke RE-1J Schools in Colorado will start two hours late. Bridgeport, Leyton, Potter-Dix, Peetz and Valley RE-1 Schools will begin at 10 a.m.

The winter storm could cause additional disruptions, and further updates will be provided as conditions develop. Stay tuned to News Channel Nebraska for the latest weather updates and school announcements
