Sidney Basketball Teams Sweep Alliance

The Sidney Lady Raider and Red Raider basketball teams put the finishing touches on their regular seasons Friday at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. Both Sidney teams swept their JV and varsity games against Alliance.

SIDNEY – The Sidney Lady Raider and Red Raider basketball teams put the finishing touches on their regular seasons Friday at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. Both Sidney teams swept their JV and varsity games against Alliance as they prepare for post season tournaments. The Lady Raiders, who will host the B-8 Sub-District as the top seed on Monday and Tuesday, disposed of the Lady Bulldogs 55-10. The Red Raiders pulled away from Alliance for a 75-45 win and will begin play in the C1-10 Sub-District in Ogallala on Tuesday as the number two seed.

The Lady Raiders dominated Alliance from the opening tip, holding the Bulldogs scoreless until Alliance sophomore Paz Cody hit a three one minute into the second quarter making the score 26-3. Sidney held a 39-6 lead at the half and initiated the 40-point running clock rule with 3:55 remaining in the third quarter.

Kierra Schrader led the Lady Raiders with 15 points while Lilee Weiser pumped in 12 points and Kayla Westby added 8 points. Top-seeded Sidney and fourth seeded Alliance will square off again on at 4:30 p.m. on Monday in the first semifinal of the B-8 Sub-District at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. Second seeded Gering and third seeded Scottsbluff will play in the second semifinal scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The Championship game will be Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Sidney High School.

The Red Raiders trailed 6-5 with 5:33 to go in the first period. Sidney outscored Alliance 29-8 over the rest of the first half to take control of the game 34-14 at halftime. The Red Raiders steadily pulled away in the second half for the 75-45 win.

Alek Doty led the Sidney scoring with 17 points while Keian Kaiser added a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Alliance was paced by Espen Lanik with 18 points while Seth Meyring added 12 points.
