KIMBALL, Neb. — A High Wind Watch remains in effect from Sunday evening through Tuesday evening for Cheyenne, Kimball, Banner, Scotts Bluff, Morrill, Box Butte, Dawes, Sioux and east Laramie Counties.

The National Weather Service is forecasting west winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph possible at times. The strongest winds are expected between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, with another surge of high wind gusts anticipated Tuesday afternoon into the evening.

The primary concern with this prolonged wind event will be its impact on transportation. High-profile vehicles, including tractor trailers and campers, may struggle with strong crosswinds, leading to dangerous driving conditions.

Beyond the wind, warmer-than-average temperatures will persist through the early week, with a brief cool-down expected Wednesday before temperatures rebound heading into next weekend.

Drivers in the affected areas are urged to use caution and secure loose outdoor objects. If sustained winds reach or exceed 40 mph with gusts of 58 mph or stronger, the High Wind Watch may be upgraded to a High Wind Warning. Goshen County has already been placed in a warning.
