Fair Board announces new rodeo queen coordinator

SIDNEY -- The new Rodeo Queen Coordinator was introduced in the February 24 Cheyenne County Fair Board meeting.
Board Secretary Shelby Roelle introduced Madison Dunn to the board.
"We have a new rodeo queen coordinator. This is Madison Dunn. She has offered to be our Rodeo Queen Coordinator. She has extensive background in the equine showing in 4-H, raising horses in Boulder, Colo.," Roelle said.
Dunn said she and her husband moved to south of Potter about six years ago.
"I grew up showing 4-H, judging 4-H, and was a leader and certified judge back in Colorado. Boulder County was different growing up, but it's changed a lot so we decided to move. I'm happy to help. I work here in town," she said.
Roelle addressed some of the expectations for queen candidates.
"We are going to have a mandatory practice and meeting Wednesday, May 21. The kids are out of school that day, so we'll do our mandatory meeting for anybody that wants to try out. We do have three girls interested, not confirmed, but they have shown interest. I reached out to them to let them know that as well. We'll continue with the Wednesday practices, so the next Wednesday the 28th, we'll have a practice and then June 4 we'll have a practice and then we'll have a couple dates. Our contest is to be determined," she said.
One of the two girls interested in trying out competes in junior high rodeo and the other high school rodeo.
"Practices are very informal. It's not going to be like 4-H where we do a lot of training and teaching. We feel at this level if you're trying out for rodeo queen you should be at that higher level," she said.
