WAYNE, Neb. — Just a day after embarking on a statewide tour focused on workforce development, Governor Jim Pillen announced the resignation of K.C. Belitz, director of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED). Belitz's last day in the role is set for July 18.

Belitz was appointed to lead the DED in July 2023 and spearheaded the launch of initiatives aimed at boosting Nebraska's economic landscape. These included Read Nebraska, 6 Regions, One Nebraska, and the Governor’s New Venture Competition. Under his leadership, the department also managed the distribution of significant grant funding to revitalize both urban and rural areas across the state.

"K.C. is a dedicated public servant, whose career has been centered around growing local communities and Nebraska as a whole," Pillen stated. "He has been a strong advocate for attracting new businesses to the state and fostering relationships that will help Nebraska continue to draw companies in the bioeconomy, manufacturing, technology, and other key sectors. I thank K.C. for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors."

Belitz expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the state. "It has been a privilege to work with Governor Pillen and the people of Nebraska," he said. "I've had the chance to connect with stakeholders across the state who are passionate about their communities, making investments, and creating opportunities for families to thrive. I am grateful for those relationships."

The governor's office said an announcement regarding interim leadership for the DED and the search for a permanent director will be made in the future.
