Eighth Annual Don Dvorak Memorial raises funds for local scholarships, programs

POTTER, Neb. – The Don Dvorak Memorial Coed Sand Volleyball and Cornhole Tournament drew more than 60 participants and nearly 100 attendees to Potter on Sunday for its eighth annual event, raising funds for local scholarships and community projects.
Organizer Sarah Olsen said the tournament, held at Hangar 39, featured sand volleyball, cornhole, live music and food. Proceeds will fund the Potter-Dix Class of 2026 scholarship, provide donations to the Potter-Dix volleyball program and support the Prairie Pines Golf Course expansion project in Potter.
“This year, we raised enough to continue the scholarship, make donations locally and still set aside funds for other projects in need,” Olsen said, adding gratitude to the volunteers, sponsors and community members who made the event possible.
Winners included Kate Behrends, Paige Kantor, Kasey Kantor and Kyle Brown in volleyball, with Cassie Haupt, Morgan Haupt, Ryan Plummer and Tess Plummer finishing second. In cornhole, Michael Mata and Michael Mata Jr. took first place, while Raymond Loghry and Teresa Loghry placed second.
Olsen said community support continues to keep her late grandfather Don Dvorak’s legacy alive.
“I can’t put into words how grateful I am to everyone who volunteered, donated, played, cheered and supported us,” Olsen said. “Because of all of you, my dream continues to come true. We can’t wait to see you all again in 2026.”
The event also featured a performance by musician Stephen Castle and food from Jimmy L’s BBQ & Catering Co.
