ALLIANCE -- Join the Alliance community for the annual Suicide Prevention Walk September 27 to raise awareness and make a difference in the fight against suicide.

The walk starts at 10 a.m., beginning at Alliance High School Performing Arts Center, going around the lake, through Central Park and back to the high school.

The Panhandle Public Health District has been hosting this annual walk for over a decade.

“The number one goal is to bring awareness of suicide prevention and that there are resources out there to help,” said PPHD Injury Prevention Coordinator Janelle Visser.

This year, they’ve partnered with the Hope Squads in Alliance and Hemingford, which is a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program.

Visser recommends pre-registering for the walk, but you can register that morning starting at 9:30 a.m.

While it’s free to walk, donations are accepted and will go toward suicide prevention programs such as Hope Squad, QPR training and mental health first aid.
