TORRINGTON, Wyo. - Several Torrington schools were briefly placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a staff member reported hearing a loud noise outside Torrington High School that could have indicated a potential threat.

According to a statement from Goshen County School District, the report came in around 9:53 a.m. School officials immediately enacted emergency protocols at Torrington High School as a precaution. Because of their close proximity, Torrington Middle School, Platte River School and the district’s Central Office also initiated their emergency procedures.

District officials said they worked closely with the Torrington Police Department to investigate the situation. After a thorough search, no credible threat was found, and schools returned to normal schedules later in the morning.

“We remain vigilant and committed to taking any threat seriously to maintain the safety and security of our schools,” the school said in the release.

The district said it will continue coordinating with law enforcement to ensure student and staff safety. Classes are proceeding as scheduled.
