Sterling man dies in two vehicle accident near Fleming

A Sterling, Colo., man died Thursday when the SUV he was in collided with a truck-trailer on U.S. Highway 6 near Fleming.

FLEMING, Co. -- An 87-year-old Sterling man died Thursday when the vehicle he was driving collided with a truck-trailer near Fleming.

A maroon Cadillac XT5 SUV and a yellow Peterbuilt truck hauling a trailer collided at 2:50 p.m. near milepost 418 on U.S. Highway 6, according to Colorado State Patrol (CSP). 

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the SUV was westbound on Highway 6 as the truck was eastbound on Highway 6. The SUV swerved into the westbound lane, colliding head-on with the truck. The SUV then continued off the north side of the highway where it stopped. The truck went off the south side of the road with the trailer blocking both lanes. 

The truck driver, a 48-year-old man from Imperial, Neb., suffered minor injuries, CSP reports.

The driver of the Cadillac, 87-year-old Robert Myers of Sterling, died at the scene.
